The most widely used business model today is the Subscription-based Video On Demand model. Suited for movies, TV shows and e-learning videos. Pay-Per-View or Transactional Video On Demand are more suited for events and special coverages.

Ad-based Video On Demand model is suited for video sharing communities where you get very good traffic and offer free content to be viewed like indie projects, funny videos or indie music videos.

However, the best proposition today can be to use a hybrid of all other models. Like a fusion of PPV and Subscription where customers have a wider range to choose from. Or a combination of PPV and AVOD models where customers can watch by paying for a view of a highly valuable or have to view the ad to watch a less valued video.
