How does Google Analytics know demographics and audience interest?

Google Analytics looks at cookie data to determine this type of information. Based on your browser history it can determine with a high degree of certainty what type of consumer you are.
If you visit mommy blogs, and yoga sites, and search for women’s dresses, it can assume that you are likely a female in a certain age range. If you visit football websites, and search for sports bars, and read college blogs, it may assume you are a male within a certain age range.
Google can see hundreds if not thousands of pieces of data like that from your browser. The more data they can get, the more accurate their prediction is.
Google Analytics will learn demographic data based on the settings you specified in your Google profile. Interest in Google Analytics based on your surf on the network.
Since Google Analytics can only recognize demographic data and audience interest of registered Google accounts, approximately 40-45% of the data in Google Analytics is in undetermined traffic.
